Hygienic and comfortable the PetLounge is for pets travelling on holiday or to a new home.
The PetLounge was founded in response to approaches from pet owners, breeders and associations as they identified the dire need for the correct and compassionate way of moving animals.
The Process
Step 1
Phone the nearest PetLounge or Central Call Centre on
011 230 4600 to book animal air travel, to confirm documentation, or to find out which container is required and when to drop off your pet.

Step 2
The following documents are completed:

Step 3
Our Pet Travel Specialist checks that your pet’s container is correct, secure and ready for travel. The Vet book and any other required documents are handed over, checked and made of a copy of.
Step 4
Our Pet Travel Specialist ensures that your pet has sufficient water in their container, before placing them in a secure area. Thereafter all necessary details are captured onto a manifest and the receiving lounge is pre-alerted of the important arrival.
Step 5
Your pet is then transported to the aircraft. The ramp handler is given all necessary documentation along with your pet and advises the Captain.
Step 6
The PetLounge contacts the Sender and Recipient if there is any delay, and makes alternate arrangements if necessary. Your pet departs for its destination.
Step 7
The recipient welcomes their pet and signs a copy of the Air Waybill as proof of arrival.
Requirements
The comfort, safety and security of your pet is of utmost importance to us, for that reason we are particular on the type of crates accepted at the PetLounge.
For a comfortable and secure journey
- Essentials - Pets must have a water bowl and bedding for absorption. They should be able to stand up with reasonable space between their head and the roof of the crate, they should also be able to comfortably turn around in their crate.
- Inoculation - Animals above the age of 3 months must be inoculated against Rabies, this should be done annually. There is a waiting period of 7 days (if they are older than 1 year) or 14 days (for 1st time inoculations or if they are between 3 & 12 months) after their rabies inoculation, prior to the pet travelling.Read More...
If your animal is younger than 3 months old, a clear, legible copy of the mothers VET BOOK must be provided.
Puppies and kittens under 3 months must have their own inoculation booklet with their first inoculations up to date.
Puppies and kittens can only fly from the age of 8 weeks.
NOTE: Please enquire about the special requirements for the transportation of snub/pug nosed animals.
Paperwork to bring with you
- All pets - Please bring the original official vaccination card with your pet, which we will make a copy of.
- Pregnant Pets - If your pet is pregnant, please bring a letter from your vet signed within the last week certifying that your pet is fit to fly.
Whilst we endeavour to make certain that the above regulation is met, it is the sender’s responsibility to disclose any medical condition your pet might have.
Booking and check-in
- Booking - Please book your pet's flight 48 hours prior to the flight, contact us on 011 230 4600 or email us on info@petlounge.co.za.
- Check-in - Domestic Check In – Please check your pet in 2 hours before their flight
- Regional Check In - Please book your pet in 4 hours before their flight
Check in times allow for all procedures to be completed in time for boarding.
